This week, at our Monday meeting on Revenues and Benefits, we continued our conversation about the factors influencing the rental market. We reviewed The Harrison report, which highlights the trend of London renters moving to other regions, significantly impacting those local markets. For example, in some parts of Oxford, 55% of potential tenants are from London. This shift is creating challenges for local renters, who are being pushed out due to increased competition and rising prices. In turn they move further out causing a rippling effect.
We’ve got a detailed slide pack with more information on this. Additionally, we touched on the topic of rough sleeping, questioning if it can sometimes be a personal lifestyle choice, and we also considered how extreme weather can further strain an already pressured rental market.
Next week, we plan to cover various topics, including the support available to UK veterans. A week is a long-time, Suella may have reintroduced the public stocks by then.
